After our quick little hike in BC, we hopped back into the car and onto the highway. Today was a big day. We needed to make it to Vancouver (about 600km from our current location) and then grab a ferry at 10:30 pm. We made quick work of the driving and soon enough we arrived in Vancouver. We went out to eat at a restaurant and then headed to our ferry. We arrived on Vancouver island around 1 am and went to look for a parking spot to sleep. This was a little harder than the previous time as most of the good spots had no overnight parking signs. At around 2:00 am we decides to just sleep in a no parking zone anyway and head out early.
We awoke very early around 6:00 am and head north toward Quadra Island. And wow were we blown away. Within 15 minutes of driving, we had stopped at a small marina to photograph the sunrise. There were seagulls, turns, sandpipers and a big blue heron fishing in the intertidal zone. The local fishermen were heading out to their nets and lobster traps to check if they had gotten a good haul. It was paradise.
Soon enough we were cruising back up the coast admiring this amazing landscape. There were faun's grazing in the parks eagles patrolling the skies. We city-goers were gobsmacked by the abundance of wildlife that surround us. The island felt real it felt alive. There was this spark this energy that kept our sleep-deprived bodies excited and giddy. Unfortunately, the drive was over quickly. We had arrived in Campbell River where we would be boarding our final ferry...for a few days at least. This ferry would be taking us to the magical Quadra Island.
Next time you go on vacation friends don't fly gather some loved ones and hop into your car. You will experience way more driving your route than flying. You will meet so many people and see so many new places not just your final destination. Get out there friends.
