Moral maxims related to virtuous and vicious persons of the most Venerable Shwekyin Sayadaw (First Founder of The Shwekyin Group)
{} သူကန္း မွန္အိမ္ေဆာင္လ်ွင္ ညဥ့္အခါ သူေကာင္းဝင္၍မတိုး။
Nobody will bump on a blind man carrying a lamp at night.
မသူေတာ္ တရားသံပါလ်ွင္ လူလယ္တြင္ လူတကာ အျပစ္မျမင္ႏိုင္။
Everybody can forgive the faults of a vicious man, if he talks only hot air related with dhamma.
{} နားထိုင္းေစာင္းသမား မိမိေစာင္းသံ မၾကားေသာ္လည္း တီးခရသည္။
A deaf harpist gets fees for his performance although he hears not his own music.
မသူေတာ္ဓမၼကထိက မိမိတရားသံကို မၾကားေသာ္လည္း ေဟာခရသည္။
A shameless person gets fees for his dhamma talk although he pays no regard to what he talks.
တရားေဟာတတ္လ်က္ မက်င့္တတ္လ်ွင္ ေမ်ာက္အုန္းသီးရသည္ႏွင့္တူသည္။
A person who is able to preach dhamma talk resembles a monkey in possession of a coconut, unless he practises as he talks.
{} သစ္ပင္ႀကီးသည္ ခုတ္လွဲသူေသာ္လည္း မလဲမခ်င္း အရိပ္ျဖင့္ ေအးေစသည္။
A big tree provides a cool shade even to its cutter before it is felled down.
န့့ံသာတုံးသည္ မီး႐ိႈ့သူကိုေသာ္လည္း မကြၽမ္းမခ်င္း အနံ႔ျဖင့္ ေမႊးေစသည္။
A piece of sandal-wood spreads fragrant scent out even to one who burns it until it gets burnt out.
သူေတာ္ေကာင္းသည္ ညႇဥ္းဆဲသူကိုေသာ္လည္း မေသမခ်င္း အက်ိဳးေဆာင္သည္။
The virtuous man carries out benefits of even one who tortured him until he dies.
{} သမုဒၵရာေရ မီးေၾကာင့္ မကြၽမ္း။
The ocean cannot be burnt out by the fire.
ျမင္းမိုရ္ေတာင္ ေလေၾကာင့္ မလႈပ္။
Mt.Meru cannot be shaken by the wind.
ေက်ာက္ခဲ ေရေၾကာင့္ မေက်။
The stone cannot be dissolved in water.
သူေတာ္ေကာင္း မသူေတာ္ေၾကာင့္ မတုန္လႈပ္။
A virtuous person cannot be ruffled by a vicious one.
{} မသူေတာ္အမ်က္ေၾကာင့္ သူေတာ္ေကာင္း ဂုဏ္ပ်က္မခံ။
The good reputation of a virtuous man never wither, due to a vicious man's anger.
{} သူေတာ္ေကာင္း အမ်က္ထြက္လ်ွင္ မသူေတာ္ အလိုျပည့္သည္။
If a virtuous man loses his temper, it is just what a vicious man desires.
{} မသူေတာ္အက်င့္သည္ အမ်ား၏စိတ္ကို ပ်က္ေစ၏။ သူေတာ္ေကာင္း၏စိတ္ကို မပ်က္ေစႏိုင္။
By his misconduct, a vicious man distresses all but not the virtuous.
သူေတာ္ေကာင္း၏အက်င့္သည္ အမ်ား၏စိတ္ကို ႏွစ္သက္ေစ၏။ မသူေတာ္၏စိတ္ကို မႏွစ္သက္ေစႏိုင္။
By his conduct, a vicious man delights all but not the vicious.
{} ဘုရား႐ွင္သည္ ျမင္းမိုရ္ေတာင္ကို သမုဒၵရာေရမွ ထုတ္ႏိုင္၏။ မသူေတာ္ကို ဒုစ႐ိုက္မွ မထုတ္ႏိုင္။
The Buddha is capable of lifting Mt.Meru out of the ocean, but not vile one out of his evils.
ေႁမြေဘးမွ ေဆးဝါးမႏၲရားျဖင့္ တားႏိုင္၏။
Danger of snake can be averted by spells.
မသူေတာ္မွ ဟန္႔တားႏိုင္ေသာ ေဆးဝါးမႏၲရားမ႐ွိ။
There is no charm for protection against the vicious one.
{} ျခေသၤ့သည္ က်ားကိုႏိုင္၏။ ကိုယ္တြင္းက ေခြးေလွးသန္းကို မႏိုင္။
A lion overcomes a tiger but not flea on his body.
မသူေတာ္သည္ သူေတာ္ေကာင္းကို ႏိုင္၏။ ကိုယ္တြင္းက အကုသိုလ္ကို မႏိုင္။
A vicious one overcomes the virtuous but not unwholesome actions of himself.
မသူေတာ္သည္ သုခႀကိဳက္လ်က္ နတ္ျပည္မတက္။ ဒုကၡမုန္းလ်က္ ငရဲဆင္းရ၏။
Vicious one, preferring agreeable feeling, is unable to reach heaven. Although he dislikes disagreeable feeling vicious one plunges into the hell.
{} မသူေတာ္သည္ မိမိကို ေမတၱာ႐ွိေသာ သူေတာ္ေကာင္းကို ျပစ္မွားနိင္၏။
Vicious one usually does misconduct on virtuous one who always shares loving-kindness for him.
သူေတာ္ေကာင္းသည္ မိမိအား ေမတၱာပ်က္ေသာ မသူေတာ္ကို ခ်စ္ႏိုင္၏။
Virtuous one is able to share loving-kindness to vicious one who bears hatred for him.
{} မသူေတာ္ကား လာဘ္ရဖို႔ ၾကံ၏။
Vicious one usually tries to attain worldly gains, name and fame.
{} သူေတာ္ေကာင္းကား တရားရဖို႔ ၾကံ၏။
Virtuous one always strives to attain the Supra-mundane knowledge (lokuttara ñãna).
သူေတာ္ႏွင့္ မသူေတာ္သည္ ေ႐ွးကံအေၾကာင္းလည္း ေဝး၏။ ယခုအက်င့္လည္း ေဝး၏။ ေနာင္လားရာဂတိလည္း ေဝး၏။
Far apart are the virtuous and the vicious in previous actions (kamma) in present conducts and in future destination of existence.
{} မသူေတာ္သည္ အစားေကာင္းစားလ်က္ အိပ္ရာေကာင္းအိပ္လ်က္ တရားမွ လက္လြတ္၏။
The vicious one enjoys having delicious foods and taking good beds, but not the fruits of dhamma.
ေဘာဇဥ္အရသာ သူနာ မခံစား။
The taste of nutriment cannot be recognized by one's appetite impaired.
နိဗၺာန္အရသာ မသူေတာ္ မခံစား။
The taste of deliverance (vimutti) cannot be realized by one's appetite in sensual pleasure.
{} ဘုရား႐ွင္သည္ ျမင္းမိုရ္ေတာင္ကို ဖဝါးေအာက္ ေရာက္ေစႏိုင္၏။ ပုရာဏကႆပကို အနားေရာက္ေအာင္ မတတ္ႏိုင္။
The Supreme Buddha is able to put Mt.Meru near but not approach of Purãna Kassapa to cheer.
{} ျခေသၤ့မင္းေဟာက္သံကို ၾကားလ်ွင္ ေဘးကင္းရာသို႔ အမ်ားေျပးဝင္ၾက၏။ ေခြးေလွးၾကမ္းပိုးကား အိပ္ရာမွပင္ မႏိုး။
When the king lion roars animals run away for safety but fleas remain fast asleep.
ဘုရား႐ွင္၏ တရားသံကို ၾကားလ်ွင္ နိဗၺာန္သို႔ အမ်ားေျပးဝင္ၾက၏။ မသူေတာ္ကား အိပ္ရာမွ မႏိုး။
When the virtuous people heard the Dhamma talked by the Supreme Buddha they entered into the Nibbãna, however the vicious person sleeps forever in Samsãra(rounds of rebirth) .
{} က်င္ႀကီးသည္ ေႏြးသည္ျဖစ္ေစ ေအးသည္ျဖစ္ေစ၊ အဆင္းလွသည္ျဖစ္ေစ မလွသည္ျဖစ္ေစ ရြံဖြယ္သာတည္း။
Excrement is very loathsome, whether warm or cold, colourful or not.
မသူေတာ္သည္ အမ်က္ထြက္သည္ျဖစ္ေစ မထြက္သည္ျဖစ္ေစ၊ စကားလွသည္ျဖစ္ေစ မလွသည္ျဖစ္ေစ ရြံဖြယ္သာတည္း။
Vicious one is very loathsome, whether angry or not, speech politely or not.
{} မီးခဲသည္ ပူေသာအခါ လက္ေလာင္၏။ ေအးေသာအခါ လက္ကို မည္းေစသည္။
An alive charcoal burns one's fingers and blackens them when cold.
မသူေတာ္သည္ ေဒါသအခါ ေၾကာက္စရာ။ ေလာဘအခါ ရြံစရာျဖစ္၏။
Vicious one is dreadful when angry, repugnant when greedy.
{} အ႐ွင္မဟာေမာဂၢလာန္သည္ ေျမကို အထက္ေအာက္ လွန္ႏိုင္၏။ မသူေတာ္၏ အၾကံကို မလွန္ႏိုင္။
The most Venerable Moggalãna was able to turn the earth upside down, but not intention of his murderers.
{} ေခြး႐ူးကိုက္လ်ွင္ ထိုသူ ႐ူး၏။
If anyone is bitten by a rabid dog, he becomes rabies.
ထိုသူ ကိုက္လ်ွင္ ေနာက္လူ ႐ူး၏။
If he bites another, the next one becomes rabies too.
ေခြး႐ူးသည္ လူေကာင္းအဆက္ဆက္ကို ႐ူးေစ၏။
A rabid dog can cause rabies one person after another successively.
မသူေတာ္သည္ သူေတာ္ေကာင္းအဆက္ဆက္ကို ယုတ္မာေစ၏။
A vicious one can cause inferiority of virtuous persons successively.
{} ေကာင္းကင္ကို စ်ာန္တန္ခိုးျဖင့္ ႏိုင္၏။
Psychic knowledge (abhiñãna) overcomes the sky.
သမုဒၵရာကို ေလွ၊သေဘၤာျဖင့္ ႏိုင္၏။
Boat overcomes the sea.
အမိုက္ေမွာင္ကို ဆီမီးျဖင့္ နုိင္၏။
Candle light overcomes darkness.
မသူေတာ္ကို အဘယ္နည္းျဖင့္ ႏိုင္မည္နည္း။
Which mean can overcome the vicious?
{} ငရဲႀကီး႐ွစ္ထပ္ကို ကမ႓ာဖ်က္မီး ကြၽမ္းေစ၏။
The disaster of earth's fire can burn out eight realms of the hell.
ေျမႀကီးအထုကို ကမ႓ာဖ်က္ေရ ေၾကမြေစ၏။
The disaster of earth's water can crush out the earth.
ျမင္းမိုရ္ေတာင္ကို ကမ႓ာဖ်က္ေလ လြင့္ေစ၏။
The disaster of earth's wind can spread out Mt.Meru.
မသူေတာ္ကို ဘယ္သူဘယ္သို႔ ျဖစ္ေစႏိုင္သနည္း။
Who can make the vicious one to what kind of person?
{} မသူေတာ္ဟူသမ်ွသည္ သံသရာ၌ မိဘေဆြမ်ိဳး ေတာ္စပ္ဖူး၏။
Every one had experience as relatives of all kinds of vicious people in infinite rounds of rebirth (samsãra).
မသူေတာ္ကို အမွီျပဳလ်ွင္ မသူေတာ္သာျဖစ္သည္။ က်ား၏သား သမင္မျဖစ္။
An associate of the foolish becomes foolish. He cannot become otherwise just as a cub of tiger cannot turn into a deer.
