I've had a new visitor in my garden this week, a bird I've never seen before: the cedar waxwing, so named because of the red wax-like spots on its wings and for his occasional appetite for cedar cones.
He was attracted to a fruiting winterberry tree beside the garden.
There's no sexual dimorphism in this species, so it may be a male or a female. Actually there was two of them, so they were likely a couple.
I used a Minolta 500mm f/8 mirror lens on a Sony a77 camera.
