Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being". It also described as "a reason to jump out of bed each morning", "meaningfulness of one's life".

Ikigai is your passion and purpose in life. Finding and knowing your ikigai means bringing satisfaction, happiness and meaning to your life and make you live longer.

Ikigai entails,

  • What you love (your passion)
  • What the world needs (your mission)
  • What you are good at (your vocation)
  • What you can get paid for (your profession)

...

According to Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life, a book written by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles.

  • "Once you discover your ikigai, pursuing it and nurturing it every day will bring meaning to your life.”

  • There are ten rules that guide one in finding ikigai;

  1. Stay active; don’t retire
  2. Take it slow
  3. Don't fill your stomach
  4. Surround yourself with good friends
  5. Get in shape through daily and gentle exercise
  6. Smile
  7. Reconnect with nature
  8. Give thanks
  9. Live in the moment
  10. Follow your ikigai
