YouTube Copyright DMCA Abuse

[imported from my wordpress blog]

It goes without saying that there's good and strong reasons why I prefer Bitchute and Minds over YouTube. It's not just the censorship of videos of people and opinions that special snowflakes dislike. It's also in large due to bogus copyright claims that start shortly after the FuckViacom campaign which started long before #WTFU or Where's the Fair Use.

For example, this copyright claim on my own YouTube channel. You can click the image to the left to go to the media page and get a bigger image of it. The image in question is a copyright claim on my video "Free Will or Predestination in Timelines". The section of the video in question involves the unedited wormhole transit animation.

You can see (and download) that segment on Pixabay. If you open that link, it'll take you to the clip itself and you can see it's licence.

"CC0 Creative Commons

Free for commercial use
No attribution required"
Ok, so what is this bull? It means that you're allowed to use that clip in your own video content without giving attribution to the original creator or artist and you're allowed to use it for commercial purposes, be it monetizing your videos with that clip in it or using it in music videos or other promotional content and freely as well for personal use.

In the screenshot of the copyright claim, you can see the claimant is UMG or Universal Music Group. The wormhole stock footage clip in question was used in a Shakira lyric music video. Unfortunately for UMG, they committed perjury by filing this false copyright claim.

Major companies like UMG and others would be wise to realize that just because they found something on the internet and used it, doesn't mean they suddenly and magically own the copyright to that content. UMG indeed was free to use the wormhole clip in the Shakira music video without attribution to the original author of the stock video and they were free to use it for commercial purposes as they do.

What UMG was not free to do is go around and start putting copyright claims on videos that used the same stock footage with the same licence that they themselves enjoyed. Far too many companies have been doing crap like that and it's seriously irritating as hell.

There have been official livestreams of events like NASA livestreaming on YouTube, only for a news organization to start broadcasting about it and suddenly cause the stream to go offline from that news media company filing a copyright claim against NASA for their own livestream footage.

There's also been events of livestreamed events like Comdex, for sake of example, that were livestreaming their event or some panel, only for yet another news reporter to talk about it on the Mainstream Media news and then BAM copyright claim takes it down.

Just because a company uses footage they don't own, doesn't suddenly give them magic copyrights to that footage and content just because they used it. I can't stress enough about how irritating this is and why YouTube needs to fix it's shit. At least I don't have these issues on Bitchute. Not yet at least.Untitled-300x179.png
