Sigh

Things out here were silent, between jackal howls and a few of the owls leaving their tree perches. A deafening kind of silence, where breath sounded like it would make your eardrums explode...
A stark, cold contrast to an hour ahead...on the precipice... there in junction city.

The coffee mug hanging heavy from fingertips, empty of its service.
Feet unmoved from where I stood staring, into black night, just past all the spotlights... their reach teasingly treaded by the jackals who watched so intently from the no-go... curious to the similars that sat at my feet, ears, eyes and noses fixed on their distant cousins.
No growling, no noise... just in sight...

There was a space, a vast, unfillable space that lingered everywhere...was this place any less dangerous, any more comfortable... than that ancient city right now....
