Is writing articles on Internet (to earn money) worth it???

Howdy friends!

This is my first post on here, and also my first attempt at sharing some information that I gained a few days back.

This post of mine is for all aspiring writers, who are looking for some opportunities, and also for people who want to earn money on the internet writing article.

Last week I was reading an article by an avid financial writer (I wonโ€™t name him) on the subject of earning money by writing blogs/articles. He gave examples of a few websites viz. iwriter & scripted, that pay you money for writing articles. This got me curious! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I always wanted to write, but could never decide on a topic. This was like a blessing in disguise for me! Imagine, somebody else is asking you to write something for them, and will be paying you for it! The thought excited and encouraged me to do my research on these websites.

This is how these sites work โ€“ once you register as a writer on these websites, you can access the list of articles that have been requested by people on these websites. The subjects of these articles are very widespread, and so is the requester list. You can write the requested article and submit it on the website. If the requester likes your article, he/she pays you the pre-decided amount! Itโ€™s that easy!

Well, now comes the hard part or should I call it the tricky one!

These articles are generally in the range of 500 words. Writing any such article will need you to do some research e.g. writing a promotional article on 2018 Cadillac Escalade will warrant you doing research on the new car. This would take about 2 hours of your dedicated time! And then it would take you anywhere from 2-5 hours to actually write the article, make it presentable, search/add images, etc.

So it basically means that writing any article will take at least about 4-7 hours of your time. And even after this, you cannot be sure that your work will get paid!

Now the most important part โ€“ how much do you get paid if your article does get selected??

The normal payout that I saw on the site was $1 โ€“ $8 (average being just about $4)!!! Most of the articles would pay less than $2! Is it worth the time spent?? In the best case scenario, you get paid at $1.5 / hr (that too for elite writers who have written many articles and are very highly rated by requesters). Most of the writers (I would say about 80%), would get paid at 25 cents/hr!!!

Some people might say that if multiple articles are written, it might add up. Letโ€™s do that math. Assuming this is your part time job, nobody would be able to do more than 1 article per day (remember that each article will take about 5 hours). Most of the folks would be able to manage only about 8-10 articles max. Taking an above average estimate of 15 articles in a month, and the best case scenario of all articles getting approved, you would get paid less than $100 (for 60 hours of your time)!!!

Is it worth it???

The only positive I can see in all this is โ€“ writers who want to practice a bit, can do this as a hobby (and basically not care much about what they are earning out of it). However, even in this case, it will help them only if they want to build their career/passion in this style of commercial writing.

However, this is where Steemit comes into picture, and just sweeps it away!!!

Steemit is providing an excellent platform to budding writers - to practice their skill, share content, get feedback and get paid handsomely at the same time!!! Isn't this fabulous???!!!

So use this opportunity as much as you can, for learning, sharing and earning!!! All the very best to all my fellow Steemians! Keep the thoughts flowing! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Take care!

P.S. - These are my thoughts, and there is a high possibility that somebody else might view it differently. I would be keen on listening to your thoughts on this and may be learning something new in the process.

Hope you enjoyed the post! Comments/feedback is most welcome from all readers!
