What makes you happy? Have you ever just sat down and thought about that? I mean really thought about it. When I say happy, I mean an experience or a feeling or a sight that brings a smile to your face instantly. You don’t even have to think about it. It just happens. I’m smiling now just writing that. Does that mean that writing makes me happy? Maybe, what makes me even happier is when I sit down and have no idea what I want to say and then it just flows.
It flows from inside of me and this is what brings that sly little smile to my face. That special kind of sparkle to my eyes. That joy that only I understand and only I own. It’s my special moment in time. A moment where I’m blissfully happy. A moment where I can just regurgitate all my thoughts and feelings and feel good vibes with what I write on a piece of paper. A blank piece of paper. I love watching the words I type fill a page.
In the past I only used to write by hand. I miss that sometimes. I suppose this is where I should confess that I love old books. You know, library books. I love the thoughts that cross my mind while I’m reading them. Who held this book before me and how did they hold it? What were they thinking while they were flipping through the exact same pages that I am devouring now? Writing by hand was the same for me.
I loved it. I used to buy special notebooks with different kinds of pages that I could fill with my words. I loved that the most. Starting with a blank notebook and just filling it up with words. My words. Page after page and notebook after notebook. It was like a blank canvas for me. I suck at painting. Trust me, I tried many times. I was just not designed to express myself in color or brush strokes. I was designed to do so in words.
I’m incredibly proud of that collection of ‘diaries’. I’m proud that for so many years I was able to express myself like that. I wrote it all down. Everything with no filter. It’s all there to delve into whenever I feel like I want to. I created it and it’s my artwork. I might not be able to paint, but I know how to fill a page.
