How the "Digital You" crushes the "Real You"

It generally starts with an urge to write.

Some do it to be heard while other do it just because they want to express themselves.

Then you think what is the harm in putting it up as a blog when I am already spending time on writing.

Then you think now that I have a blog why not share with some friends.

Some friends read, some friends comment and some ignore.

But those comments you got on the blog makes you feel good.

Then you have your first follower, then you have the next.

Before you know you already have a couple of tens of followers.

Now you plan to write more regularly as you have people who are ready read what you write as soon as you post something.

You write some posts frequently. Then life happens, you give up writing.

Then something hits you at work, then you feel like writing again.

You brood over a topic and feel like writing a post "What is the meaning of life, What am I doing?".

But you feel like Naah.

Then you glance at your followers thinking which topic would get more engagement.

You finally pick a banal topic and start writing.

You are in between and then you feel "Will this offend somebody in my followers?"

Without realising you have started to sacrifice your Freedom of Expression

And the worst part is you can only blame yourself.

While these are for general writing, just imagine what would happen if "Monetary " value was assigned to each of your actions.

The worst part with incentivising something is without the intension you penalise all the other activities which are not incentivised.

This is already happening on steemit.

There are people who time their posts to get engagement, choose topics that are clickbaits, writes posts which set unrealistic expectations and increases the restlessness in the community.

There are posts which play on the excitement of the newbies, insecurities of minnows and restlessness of those who have not made it big.

You might be a whale today but you were also a minnow one day. Remember the struggles you went through, help out others.

Do not set unrealistic expectations. It is good to make them dream but let them know about the reality.

At first the Digital You was an extension of your True Self.

Then It became You.

And very soon It will control who you are.

Be careful because over the time you become what you portray yourself as online
