Pat McAfee Brings Excitement To Smackdown

What hasn't Pat McAfee done? Selected in the 7th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, McAfee earned a stellar reputation for his punting and kick-off abilities, in addition to his other on-field talents. He helped the Indianapolis Colts reach Super Bowl XLIV. He retired from football in 2017 due to repeated knee operations. In addition, there was no love lost between him and the Indianapolis Colts General Manager in regards to his sometimes controversial behavior.

Having produced a few podcasts, McAfee assisted in bringing back the podcast, "The Best Wrestling Show," through his own company, PMI. The Pat McAfee Show is featured on Mad Dog Sports Radio on Sirius XM. He has been a sports analyst during college football broadcasts, as well as the NFL. In 2016, he even tried his hand at stand-up. In addition, McAfee played right field for the baseball Washington Wild Things.

How does all this connect him to professional wrestling? Right before the football draft, McAfee worked a match with The WarPig in an IWA show. He even scored the upset victory! In 2017, he briefly trained to be a professional wrestler. He got to work for the head honcho of the WWE when he scored a gig as a sideline reporter for Vince McMahon's XFL. He started a feud in NXT with Adam Cole when he interfered in Cole's match with Aleister Black.

Being given different roles with the WWE, McAfee finally settled in as a member of the Smackdown commentating team four months ago. It is not an easy task because it is only himself and Michael Cole behind the desk. However, I thoroughly enjoy his color commentary. During a match involving Shinsuke Nakamura, I began to notice McAfee. Rick Boogs is shredding on guitar as he is accompanying Nakamura to the ring. At the same time, McAfee is going nuts shouting his approval of the King Of Strong Style while standing on top of the announce desk. Not having been a big follower of football, I had to look up this man's career all because of the level of excitement he was throwing out there from an announcer position. His energy has now ramped up to an even more crazy level with actual fans in the seats. With all this being said, he appears to know when to be laid back and not interfere with any of the action.
