Atari, The vintage video game company is known for classic games such Pong, Space Invaders and Asteroids and soon Gambling. They've just announced they're venturing into the world of online gambling with the launch of their own crypto casino: Atari Casino and blockchain.
It's not the first curveball the company has thrown. Earlier this year they announced plans to launch a chain of video game themed hotels.
Details on the website are pretty vague with regards to AtariChain. The only mention of tokenomics refers to the supply. The whitepaper for the casino simply points to a one page header with no information. If this was 2017 that maybe enough but in the 2020 crypto investor needs a bit more before he parts with his cash.
Atari is a strong brand but it's hard to see what they could add to the already crowded space. One area where they hope to compete will be through the addition of peer to peer skill games. Games such as these will soon be available on the Rake section of WINk and also Matchnet when it launches. Atari's IP consists of some household names which may resonate with players born in the 70's and 80's. Replicas of these games exist all over the internet and there's very little they offer in terms of gameplay that can't be easily replicated.
Without the addition of daily dividends it will have a tough time competing with existing blockchain casinos.
It's not known yet whether the Atari Casino will be decentralized. Most likely it will simply be a casino that you can gamble cryptocurrencies on. Very soon WINk will be integrating the Poloniex Wallet into the site and begin mass marketing. They plan to introduce the mainstream gambling world to the far superior decentralized model. If WINk succeeds in it's plan to disrupt the space then it may be too late for Atari.
