According to the institution's statement, caregivers must know how to live "sustainably and possess high-level skills in the management and participation of people," as well as being passionate about corals.

“We are looking for people who are passionate about sustainability and natural heritage, with experience in maintaining infrastructure and who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and live remotely,” said Dr. Mark Read, deputy director of the Marine Park Authority and Reef Conservation Actions in Australia.
"Maintaining an island is hard work and living on a remote island means limiting the use of electricity and water, which may not be suitable for everyone," he said in the statement, adding some of the tasks that must be performed: " caretakers are involved in everything from maintenance of buildings and infrastructure, including solar power system and sewer treatment system, liaising with tour operators, cleaning restrooms, managing weeds and the gardening work, and the counting of the populations of birds like the imperial pigeons of various colors ”.
