Scientists reveal a technique that helps you control your dreams

A new study at Adelaide University found that a certain combination of techniques would increase the chances of clear dreams in humans, where a person who dreams is aware that he dreams and can control the experience.

Although there are many techniques to incite clear dreams, previous studies have reported little success rates.

The research of Dr. Denholm Aspy at the Adelaide University of Psychology aims to find a solution to this problem and develop more effective methods for inciting clear dreams.

The results of his studies have shown the possibility of increasing the chances of clear dreams in humans.

The study included three groups of participants, and explored the effectiveness of three methods of inciting clear dreams:

Reality test: This involves checking your surroundings several times a day to see whether you are dreaming or not.
Wake up and promise to bed: wake up after five hours of sleep and stay awake for a short period and then go back to sleep to enter the stage of rapid eye movement «REM» so that the probability of the occurrence of dreams greater.
MILD: The awakening after five hours of sleep and the development of determination in order to remember what you were dreaming by repeating a phrase «the next time I dream I will remember the dream».

Of the 47 people integrated into the three methods, participants were able to achieve 17% success, which is higher compared to a week in which they did not implement any method.

The success rate was much higher (approximately 46%) in people who were able to sleep within five minutes of completing MILD.

"MILD depends on the so-called future memory," says Dr. Asby. "You can remember to do things in the future by repeating a phrase that says you'll remember what you're going to dream about.

Importantly, people who succeeded in the MILD method had less sleep deprivation, suggesting that clear dreams had no negative impact on the quality of sleep.

"These results bring us closer to developing more effective ways to stimulate clear dreams, allowing us to study the many benefits inherent in clear dreams such as nightmares and improving physical skills and abilities through training in a clear dream environment."
