Steem witnesses are vital to the Steem network. the simple way to look at is they process transactions on behalf of users, without them no blocks would be produced and nothing would be added to the blockchain
Steem has a different model to most cryptocurrencies as far as becoming involved with block production is concerned, it is not the same field as say becoming a bitcoin miner. For example most Bitcoin miners are ready to run out of the box and start earning instantly. Long are days a CPU or GPU could earn any return, if you have a decent CPU/GPU you can still earn Bitcoin through programs such as NiceHash although you are not directly mining it
I have recently started running as a witness, I still need to get price feed updated more regularly as this really is a important part of a witnesses job, that a fair few in the top 100 do not do regularly maintain
- Getting the price feed updated regularly daily will be this weeks priority (a few firewall issues causing conflicts)
I have used Linux for several years and although I am not what I would call a professional, I am not new to it. I learn fairly fast so I feel that I have the potential to be a benefit the community through future security of the network. It is also much easier to learn being actively involved
Servers should be ample at the meanwhile, however a upgrade will hopefully be on the cards in the next month or two
