We heard enough, and there has been a lot of stories regarding people who has mental health issues. However, the fact remains that stigma continues because some people looks down at people who has mental health problems.
Why do people with mental health issues conceal their illness?
Recently, there are a lot of people who killed or attempted to kill themselves. Youths are often those who are resorting to such actions due to overwhelming sadness and feeling of depression that they cannot control it anymore. Why do they conceal their depression? One reason is the notion of being criticized or be labelled as crazy. Admit it or not, people tag such people who are afflicted with mental problems as crazy. Another reason is they don't want to become the center of attention. They are also scared to be judged.
The question is, if someone told you about their depression, how do you respond? It's true that some will say "think positive", "don't think about it!", "it's all in the mind", and such. But does it work? Sure enough, some family members of those who committed suicide were told that he/she was depressed. It thus show that families and friends has the responsibility to look after the ones who's facing such mental difficulties.
I saw from a Facebook post of someone who claims she was depressed before but criticizing those who committed suicide because of selfishness and undermining their loved ones. But she never realized the differences of people. Some are strong enough to battle and defeat depression, while others are weak enough to resort to the tragic action. That's not a good act, but to avoid such, people who has such issues like depression, anxiety disorders, etc should be watched and understood. That way, lives would be saved. To those suffering with such problem, seek help for yourself and your loved ones.
