I'm just learning all of this today, but Eurydice comes to us from Ancient Greek mythology. Her character is Auloniad — a nymph of vale and pasture. She was married to the musician Orpheus and told to be very beautiful. I think Corot has done much for the myth with his extraordinary painting!
