Empty In Memoriam for Talking Dead

One of the highlights of Chris Hardwick's Talking Dead show that follows the latest episode of The Walking Dead each week is the section known as "In Memoriam." That is a video tribute to all the characters that had died in the most recent episode. Done in a playful way, there is usually no way that a story based on zombies can't have any deaths. That is, until the most recent episode! No characters or any of the undead were eliminated or were sent on to the next life last night.

Now, that doesn't mean the episode wasn't interesting. It was a beautifully constructed piece centered around Juanita Sanchez, who wants to only be known as Princess. Portrayed wonderfully by Paola Lázaro, Princess has brought a sense of comedy and excitement since her introduction into the series. Above is a promo photo of Lázaro in character as Princess. Supposedly, "Queen" would make her sound too old.

For those following the series, Princess, along with Eugene, Ezekiel and Yumiko, have been captured by these Storm Trooper-looking soldiers. The entire episode focused on her defense mechanisms and ability to handle pressure. When she first met the group that has been captured with her, she thought they were all part of a hallucination because she has been on her own for so long. Now, reality begins to get blurred by her own fears as she is imprisoned alone. Princess does maintain a sense of loyalty to everyone until she believes that honesty can get them all out of this jam.

It is a credit to this actress for being able to keep me glued to the screen with no actual deaths involved. Having been a fan of this series since the beginning, I have a feeling that this lack of combativeness is going to lead to an explosion down the line. After all, who can you really trust in an apocalypse? In closing, I do like how she tries to emulate her character from the comic book.
