Ingredients:

- 1/2 cup water

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar for a richer flavor)

- A fresh piece of ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish

- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

- 2 tbsp homemade gingerbread syrup (prepared as below)

- 1 heaping tbsp ground coffee (for a strong brew)

- 1/4 cup boiling water (for coffee)

- 1 cup milk, steamed

- Whipped cream for topping

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Equipment:

- Medium saucepan

- Mug

- Vietnamese coffee filter or Espresso machine

- Metal filter piece (for Vietnamese coffee filter)

- Container for storing syrup

- Stove for heating milk

Instructions:

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, sliced ginger, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved.

2. Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer for about 20 minutes. This will concentrate the flavors and create your homemade gingerbread syrup.

3. Once the syrup is done, remove the saucepan from heat. Take out the sliced ginger if you prefer a milder ginger flavor.

4. To brew your coffee, add a heaping tablespoon of ground coffee to your Vietnamese coffee filter. Tamp the grounds down gently with the metal piece, then pour in 1/4 cup of boiling water and allow the coffee to brew.

5. While the coffee is brewing, steam 1 cup of milk on the stove until hot and frothy.

6. In your favorite mug, add 2 tablespoons of the homemade gingerbread syrup.

7. Once the coffee has finished brewing, pour it over the syrup in the mug.

8. Next, pour the steamed milk over the coffee and syrup mixture, letting everything blend together.

9. Top off your homemade gingerbread latte with a generous dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg for that final touch of holiday cheer.

10. Enjoy your delicious and festive Homemade Gingerbread Latte right away or keep any extra gingerbread syrup in a jar in the fridge for up to a week for future lattes.

Cooking Tips:

- For a vegan version, use a non-dairy milk alternative and vegan whipped cream.

- Adjust the amount of syrup to suit your taste preferences—more for a sweeter latte or less for a more subtle flavor.

- If using brown sugar, your syrup will have a deeper, molasses-like flavor which complements the ginger notes beautifully.
