Since the @wafrica community set out on its selfless mission to reward the passion of Africans who have harnessed the steem blockchain to make positive impact on the system by creating good contents and promoting steemit community,its been a beautiful journey so far and it's a privileged for me to be part of this beautiful community.
wafrica has supported lots of steem based projects, aside from massive curation project that has given lots of steemians hope and reasons not to give up on steemit, Charity projects are not excluded in this revolution.
Steem medical day
Steem medical day is a charity event that was organised by @steemhelpinghand team, to give out medical aid to a Slum community in Lagos Nigeria.
Agboyi-Ketu oriodo, a community under Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, surrounded by blackish dirty water without a link bridge, this Community is quite close to the hustling, and modernized areas in Lagos yet so far from urbanization.
After a survey was done in this community, we realised this community lacked, good medical care, access to good road, pipe borne water and a whole lot of social amenities, guess what?? this people fish, bath, defecate and cook with this same water!! yeah you read that right!
Imagine a community surrounded by water without a linked bridge this automatically shuts them out from the world around them, how will the aid come when there is no road to gain access, of course you can imagine what the major occupation of such a riverine area will be!!
Well After the survey and deliberations, On what should be the first bold step to support this community with, well it is said that health is wealth right? good medications and good water is a bold step, but as it was said earlier there is no road to link us through, they get out of the community with canoes, so getting in materials to make them a pipe borne water will be quite a hard nut to crack, well it isn't impossible, but we decided to kickoff with the Medical support, which we made a post about here
We got massive support, from steemit community at large, @youarehope and @wafrica supported with huge donations that made the project a huge success.
