Hewan ini hidup berbgaai tempat, seperti di hutan, disela sela batu, di dalam pasir dan di dalam lokasi lembab.
Bahkan hewan ini banyak terdapat di dalam rumah rumah, terutama rumah berkontruksi kayu.
Bagi orang papua, yaitu daerah dekat negara Papua Nugeini, Kelabang dijadikan sebagai obat pembesar alat vital pria. Meskipun belum dapat dibuktikan sevara medis, warag setempat memakai Kelabang sebagai salah satu ramuan untuk memperbesar penis.
Caranya adalah : seekor kelabang dan beberapa miligram minyak kelapa dimasukkan dalam botol. Lalu botol ditutup dan disimpan sekitar dua bulan. Bangkai kelabang telah larut dalam minyak. Minyak tersebutlah yang dioles pada alat vital pria.
