Viber Messenger planning to launch own cryptocurrency in Russia in 2019

Viber messenger is planning to launch a platform for its parent company’s cryptocurrency, which will be named Rakuten Coin, in Russia.

Viber, operated by Japanese multinational company Rakuten, is a cross-platform instant messaging and voice-over IP application.

The new cryptocurrency is likely to be launched in 2019 after completion of the Japanese conglomerate’s study on the legal issues regarding digital assets in Russia.

CEO of Viber, Djamel Agaoua, said the messenger app will play the key role in establishing Rakuten’s own cryptocurrency.
