Dear foodies of Steemit,

Currently, @deliciousplants is hosting the #VeganCheeseChallenge. This is my entry for this challenge. 😍 Thanks!

I decided to submit a recipe that is quite popular among my vegan friends. In the German language, it is called "Hefeschmelz" which means melted yeast. As you might guess from the name, nutritional yeast is one of the main ingredients.

It tastes delicously creamy and it is certainly healther than real cheese (e.g., only very minimal amount of saturated fats, no animal proteins), but keep in mind that it contains a lot of calories, so don't overdo it! 😏

I personally prefer to eat my pizzas without any cheese (instead I like a good portion of garlic paste), and use this recipe only occassionally. πŸ˜‰ But some of my friends always use it when making pizzas. They love it.

So here is the list of ingredients you need:

  • 725ml water
  • 125ml vegetable oil (e.g. canola oil)
  • 40g nutritional yeast
  • 3 tbsps starch (e.g. potato starch)
  • 1 tbsp wholewheat flour
  • herbs (e.g., ProvenΓ§al herbs, to taste)
  • garlic powder (to taste)
  • mustard (to taste)

And here is how we do it, step-by-step:

  • Put the dry ingredients (i.e., nutritional yeast, wholewheat flour and starch) into a pan.
  • Add water while stirring constanlty.
  • Place the pan on the stove and continue stirring until the mixture becomes creamy.
  • Let it briefly come to a boil.
  • Then add oil, herbs, mustard and garlic powder.
  • Take the pan off the heat and let it cool down.

Once it is cool, you can use the cheese for example as a pizza topping πŸ•!

Here are examplary pictures of how the vegan cheese looks before and after baking on the pizza πŸ•. If you want to know further information on how to make this pizza, please click on this link.
