Part of the reason we have not travelled to Mars (or any other planets) is that the sun's radiation could be problematic over so much time in space. On Earth, we are protected by the Van Allen Belt. The Van Allen Belt is essentially just a magnetic field. The solution seems simple: just create a device that would generate a magnetic field around the space craft. Am I missing something here?
