A. Introduction

With the invention of telephones and the internet, a lot of things have changed for the better. Gone are the days where we had to visit the cyber cafe to do our assignments or for chatting on Facebook. Now, from the comfort of your room, you can reach the world with your smartphone. All of these are made possible with the creation of websites, applications and web apps for individuals to consume. With these innovations, people have become smarter and more relaxed. Some of these platforms have also given its users the opportunity to make financial gains through them.

A great number of these platforms are cryptocurrency based and exists on one block chain or the other. There are several blockchains existing today but this article will look at the Steem blockchain. Some of the apps built on the Steem blockchain are decentralized and capable of rewarding users. This includes Steepshot, Actifit, eSteem and a host of others. Today, we will be looking at another of such kind of applications that has the ability to reward users.

In this article, we shall be looking at the 1Ramp android platform. By the end of this post, we would be able to understand what 1Ramp is, and how to go about the download and installation of the app. We shall also look at the history of the 1Ramp android app and the latest version of the app.

B. What is 1Ramp?

The 1Ramp platform is a decentralized social media application built on the Steem blockchain. This platform gives its users the opportunity to create articles on it, interact with fellow members of the various communities and earn while at it. The kinds of content accepted on the platform includes blog posts, picture contents, videos and others which are those of the users. These contents are upvoted by other members of the platform and owners are rewarded with cryptocurrency coins - Steem and SBD.

On 1Ramp, users can also earn by participating in contests, and competitions held by other users of the platform. All you will need to do is to join in the contest and carefully follow the rules of the game.

C. The 1Ramp Android Platform

1Ramp first started out on its journey bearing the name HapRamp and with an android app as its first release about 7 months ago. As at the time, the android app was quite bare and unpleasant to the eye. However, over the months, a lot of updates have been carried out on the app and several features have equally been added. If you visit the @hapramp profile and go through its blog page, you will notice several releases made before the name change was effected on the platform.

Now, 1Ramp has become the official name for the platform and a new Steem profile page was opened for it. You can easily visit this Steem profile at @the1Ramp to learn more about the platform. There is also the 1Ramp.io website which you can visit for more information about the platform.

D. Downloading the 1Ramp android app

Making your app available for easy download, with emphasis on easy, is a factor that would considerably determine how far your apps go. If you roll out or release your app to the public and you don't provide the necessary platforms where they can be easily downloaded from, then your new app is bound to fail.

For android apps, the most popular choice of download site for users is the Google Playstore. There is hardly any android phone you come across today where you will not see an android Google Playstore app installed on it. Therefore, this should be a major port of call for all developers rolling out their apps.

Now, the team behind 1Ramp is certainly aware of this fact and has therefore made it possible for their android app to be pushed to the Google Playstore. This will and has allowed for easy download of the 1Ramp android app by users of the platform. If you wish to download the app, simply visit your Google Playstore and input 1Ramp in the search bar. The first result is the app you're looking for. Click on it and install and then you can begin using 1Ramp on your device.

A lot of developers have a homepage where the talk about their app and show off some of its features. If you visit the web site of Mozilla Firefox, you will understand what I mean. On that website, developers also add a link to the app with a call to action for intending users to download and begin using their app.

Normally, this should be the first port of call especially if a user searches for the app via the internet. The 1Ramp team built its own platform, 1ramp.io and also added links to the application on Google Playstore. Once you click on the link, you are redirected to the Playstore where you can download the app. These are the two major ways through which you can download the 1Ramp android app.

E. History of the 1Ramp android platform

The first release of the 1Ramp android app was done about 7 months ago and the announcements for its release was made by @bxute. This update featured a section for the wallet. This feature allowed users of the app to view their SBD balance as well as that of their Steem power. Thus, it eliminated the need for users to visit the Steemit platform before they can see their Steem balance. This was basically what this update was about.

The next update to the 1Ramp app was also sent out about 5 months ago and had its focus on three major features. The first was through the users search - allowing you search for any user on the Steem blockchain via the app. The second feature implemented on this update was the wallet information which gave users a detailed overview of all funds they had in their wallet. The last feature was the transaction history. This gave an overview of all transactions carried out on a user's wallet and was accompanied by their respective memos.. This update was a very important one for users of the platform.

A version 0.0.13 of the 1Ramp app was released three months ago and allowed users make replies to comments. In addition to that, users got the ability to see their followers and those they were following. The delete functionality was also added, thereby giving users the ability to delete their post whenever they wanted to. The view for blogs was also improved to allow for better user experience.

Another update released later on featured the 1Ramp rating feature. This allowed users rate a post from between 1 star to 5 stars. Each of them represented a preset voting power percentage with 1 star being 20% and 5 stars representing 100%. These updates also allow users view the list of voters on their post and the percentage of voting power which was used in voting them.

F. The 1Ramp Android version 0.0.16

The latest version of the 1Ramp android app is the version 0.0.16. This update came with a number of beautiful features I personally like. The first of these is the push notifications. With this feature, users now get notifications for activities on the platform such as upvotes, replies, mentions, new followers, resteem and transfers. You can either toggle it off or on as you wish if you are not okay with those notifications popping up on your smartphone. You can also mark them as read, or click on them to open up the notification on your app.

The Hard Fork 20 came with resource credits and mana bar which goes a long way to determine the number of transactions a user can carry out on the Steem blockchain. On Steemit, the resource credits bar cannot be seen, except via third party platforms like Steemd, Steemnow and a number of others. Now, users of the 1Ramp platform can check the amount of resource credits they have on their profile via the 1Ramp android app. Simply click on the credits button and you'll see your percentage of Resource credits and the amount of transactions you can do with them.

These are the major features implemented on this version of the 1Ramp android app.

G. Conclusion

The Steem blockchain is blessed with a lot of developers who want to see the platform grow and as such, contributes their own quota towards its success. This we can see in the way and manner in which so many decentralized apps are springing up in short times. Today, we have seen the 1Ramp Android platform which comes with a lot of promise.

Apart from its Android platform, it also has a web platform for those who do not possess an Android device. Hopefully, an iOS version of the app will be released soon to make it complete. In the next series of this app, we shall look at how to navigate through the 1Ramp Android app.

I hope to see you on the next episode of this series. Have a nice weekend ahead.

I remain your amazing dApps presenter, @curtwriter.
