Now it's legacy acceptance

So, I have been around the block a few times in my 63 years, and the World just keeps on turning. It seems, in the last few decades, I have become increasingly aware of the need for people from all walks to legally seek remedy for a deemed unfairness.

Is legacy acceptance fair in college institutions?

First, we will never be able to hide from capitalism. Everyone everywhere seeks out the quickest route to climb the pyramid. Everyone, in this case, encompassing individuals, corporations, institutions etc. It is in the spirit of capitalism that we have legacy enrollments. Anyone who has graduated from a university is already aware of Alumni Giving campaigns. These donations are all from former students who have gone out into the world to climb the pyramid.

So, what happened to "When in Rome, do like the Romans do." It seems that today people are filing grievances only when the capitalist tide is denying their perceived further advancement. The society that we all live in says there is absolutely nothing wrong with a University blindly accepting the child of a donor that just paid for their new sports coliseum. Hell, throw in free room, board and textbook keys! Roll out the red carpet. You are definitely enrolled.

It is a slap in the face to seek out a remedy from a concept that you are trying to gain an advantage in. Capitalism thrives on adversity. Man up! Move on! Harvard is closed. The University you graduated from may offer a potential shortcut to corporate advancement, then again - it may not. What is more important is the name underneath the University on the diploma. Which name is going to be the setback?
