EP. 6: University of Greatness – How to Become Great on Steemit without Pissing off a Whale (How to Become a Whale without Pissing off a Whale)

I can as well title this post “easy ways to piss off a whale and destroy steemit” or “how to become a whale the right way” but, hey I’m no-where near a whale yet so I don’t have the license to teach minnows like myself how to become a whale.

But I have good news which is; you can become a great steemian without actually becoming a whale. They are two different things but actually becoming a whale is good step toward becoming a great steemian.

greatness

Let’s face the truth; it feels good to rank top among the richest list of people on steemit, it feels good to publish a post and get hundreds of dollars worth of upvotes, it feels good to have thousands of followers and hundreds of comments on a single post, and it feels better to become a whale so we could help give many talented minnows get a lift when necessary.

But in our strife to achieve these milestones of steemit greatness many of us minnows get in our-own-way as @JerryBanfiled put it in his video “What stops us from making millions online and having the life of our dreams?”. Instead of becoming a whale, we ended up pissing off a whale that could help us become a whale faster.

Easy Ways to Piss off a Whale and destroy steemit

Beg for follow and upvote: a lot of minnows are caught in the trap of follow 4 follow, this was a strategy I planned to use myself once I get on steemit in order to amass a punch of followers quickly but, I’m grateful to God I met @joeyrocketfilms the day I did my introduction post and he told me to stay away off follow 4 follow because it’s a way to destroy my chances of becoming a great steemian.

The advice has really helped me a lot to change my approach towards steemit. When you beg a whale to follow you or upvote your post, you didn’t only piss him or her off, you as well just ruined your chances of getting a whale favor.

Masturbating on steemit the way you do on twitter: I love this phrase, it’s the best to describe how selfish most steemit users are becoming in the quest to become great/whale. I want to credit @stellabelle for coming up with this term and giving us suggestions to write on it.

Also I appreciate @therneau who did actually write a brilliant article on it which through that I was able to locate the original article from @stellabelle that inspired him.

Masturbation is a selfish act, relationship is cheerful act. When all you want is people to follow you without considering who they are, what they want and what their interest is, it is a wicked act.

And this might work on twitter but it doesn’t work on steemit, its going against the purpose of this platform and it could destroy our great community if every one of us follows this route.

Spamming comment sections with short and irrelevant comments: personally this act pisses me off and I feel like flagging every comment that is irrelevant to my actual post and reveals that the steemian didn’t even read the topic of the post before jumping to the comment section and putting a short comment that has no link with what I wrote.

Again many minnows are guilty of this and I promise you, this is the easiest way to piss off a whale and easily get flagged. When a whale gets you downvoted or flag your comment due to it irrelevancy to the actual post then your name might as well be finished or destroyed.

How do you become great the right way?

Date a beautiful girl instead of masturbating all day: this is one of the popular advices usually given to people who struggle with masturbation. To be frank, getting into a serious relationship can save you a hell lot of self destructions, same with steemit; instead of going around this community masturbating by being selfish and begging for followers, upvotes and resteems, why not change your attitude and first invest the effort into reading people’s post and afterwards dropping a insightful comment that could trigger the post author to want to check on your blog and connect with you.

The first whale upvote I got on steemit was from @papa-pepper after dropping a simple insightful comment on one of his many interesting post, he went right way to my blog, followed me and threw a few upvotes on many of my posts and that convinced me more that this strategy is the best and it works like magic.

Quality is better than quantity: I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on this because I have come across many steemians that advocate for quantity rather than quality. They say you have to drop about 100 comments a day to get notice and to make more money you have to post not less than 5 times a day.

Well I haven’t tried this so I won’t out rightly just say it doesn’t work but, I can compare myself to many steemians who did this and are not getting notice on steemit, so I would say the result I am getting is better.

Just like in life, on steemit quality is better than quantity and it helps a lot to get notice and become great. Now look at this and tell me which you will choose; a single whale following and upvoting your post and it makes $20 on average or 30 minnows following and upvoting your post and its makes $0.90 on average

Many will prefer the formal to the latter and if that’s you then you’ve got to start working for 1 or 2 quality posts per day and 15 or 20 quality comments per day.

Use the magic of giving first and receiving second: it’s a life principle as well and its works and I can guarantee that, at least for me. Do to others what you want others to do to you, if you want to receive then give first. If you want to become a whale then help 100 minnows become a dolphin.

There are a lot of great steemains already using this strategy and one steemian I admire so much for his passionate way of implementing this principle quite well is @ackza.

What he does mainly is going around steemit in search for talented minnows from African (because this is the continent where most of the poor in our world reside. let’s face it) and give his full support to those he discover.

@ackza has empowered so many Africans by buying solar power banks and sending to steemians in Nigeria and Ghana that would love to dedicate their time and energy into steemit but are been handicapped by epileptic power supply in Africa. He has also been supporting and advocating an Africa whose GDP is in large percentage powered by Steemit and cryptocurrency in the nearest future.

Recently he discovered me after I dropped a comment on one of his posts and he did something amazing to celebrate me on steemit. He dedicated a full article to write about me and that gave me a lot of exposure.

Another great steemian I have seen express this much kindness like @ackza is @stellabelle, she’s a wonderful lady and an asset to our community. She makes her contribution in diverse ways and I believe every minnow following her is gaining from her wealth of kindness and experience.
