Ulog #4 Winning a writing contest, getting curated by @steemitmamas, picked for post of the day by @steemiteducation AND the best girls' empowerment book!

Hello fellow Steemians,

I've had a wonderful day on steemit a couple of days ago!
I won third prize in @nuoctuong 's "My Dream Vacation Destination Is...." contest, and this wasn't hard because it is my dream to go to NYC with the family. If you are a New Yorker or have been to New York, I would love to hear your tips in terms of where to go and what to eat! If you'd like to read my original post, it is here.

The part 1 of my "how to read to teach your child to read" was curated by @steemitmamas , which is just so exciting because thanks to @steemitmamas I think I've found my niche area to write about. Here's the post.

And part 2 of my "how to teach your child to read" was picked as post of the day by @steemiteducation - thank you!! It is all about teaching your child sight words, those words that can't be sounded out. If you haven't seen it, it can be found here. I also want to give an honourable mention to @mumma-monza for introducing me to my people at @steemiteducation ! I was so lost in the big world with #steemit before hand!

Now onto the exciting part, female empowerment has been in the media lately especially due to some amazing movements such as #metoo but also all the women's marches happening all around the place.

I am a proud teachermama of girls and I think there is nothing better than raising girls except for one thing - I feel that I need to protect them a lot more in this world.

The other day, I went our the local library, and came across the most beautiful book for girls! It's called "Beautiful" by Stacy McAnaulty.

As a teacher, I love the visual literacy component of the book, it's all about comprehending the author's words along with what the pictures are telling the reader.

As a mama, I just love the message it is sending to my girl. Just check out some of the pages

Beautiful girls move gracefully

I love how the pictures doesn't necessarily make the words in the book untrue, but rather it re-defines what it means for a girl to move gracefully or to wear make-up.

If you're a teacher or a parent, please check out this book! There are lots of youtube video readings of it as well!
