The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia's import performance in August 2018 amounting to USD16.84 billion. This figure is down 7.97% compared to July 2018 which amounted to USD18.30 billion.

However, if viewed on an annual basis, the import performance in August 2018 was higher than August 2017 which amounted to USD13.51 billion.

BPS Chief Suhariyanto said, one of the decreases in import performance in August 2018 was that imports of consumer goods last month decreased 9.19% to USD 1.172 billion. While imports of consumer goods needs in July 2018 amounted to USD1,554 billion.

The most significant decline in imports of consumer goods was the import of fresh apples and pears. BPS recorded that the import of fruit fell by USD73.9 million and USD14.2 million respectively.

"Imports of consumer goods fell 9.19%. Especially the decline in imports of fresh apples and pears. People now have begun to love and consume Indonesian fruits, thus reducing imported fruits," Suhariyanto said in Jakarta, Monday (17 / 9/2018).

According to him, for that, the government will continue to encourage to love and consume domestic fruits. "Everyone must eat mango and rambutan," he said.
