[TV Discovery] Colony

Colony is an American sci-fi series that premiered in 2016, created by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan J. Condal (Hercules), starring Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead). The story takes place in a Dystopian not-too-distant future where mankind is subservient to an extraterrestrial group known only as "Hosts", and governed by an organisation known as the "Transitional Authority". Cities are walled off in "blocs", with no travel allowed outside of the walls. We follow the Bowman's six months after Arrival Day, as they try to adjust and rebuild their family in the world beyond the walls.

I've been watching this one since it first aired, and it is definitely one of those underrated gems that doesn't get anywhere near enough attention. My main criticism would have to be the pacing in the first season, it's very slow to build and at times frustrating. The wait pays off however with the second season as things are really shifted up a gear. This isn't the most original sci-fi show ever made, but it's very well written and executed with great performances by Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies. The show has even attracted glowing praise from none other than Stephen King, with him saying;

"In a year of remarkable TV, Colony is really something special: smart, suspenseful, subversive... thought-provoking."

Season 3 has just started airing on the USA channel, and I think you can catch up over on Netflix as well as Google Play. If you enjoyed Falling Skies, then this show is definitely up your alley. Patience is maybe required for some people to get through the first season, myself included there, but it does pay off and you'll be left wanting to know what happens next for the Bowman's.

Oh, and as a side note, I'm trying to get a new tag started; #tvdiscovery so if you write posts about shows you enjoy and others might too, then add the #tvdiscovery tag to your posts. I often find the #TV tag to be a bit cluttered. Until we meet again, take it easy!
