American Gods Pilot is a visually lush 62 minute long premiere - American God Season 1 Episode 1 : The Bone Orchard Review

Neil Gaiman. That's the reason why I decided to start watching this series next. Also the fact that it was rated 8.4/10 on IMDB and 94% on Rotten tomatoes. Also because my friend @behemoth18 vouched for it as well.

The series opens with a buch of Vikings ending up stranded on the shore of a beach. They are unable to move in further as the natives showers arrows down on them and are unable to leave as there is no wind to set sail. They pray to their All-Father for wind and realizes that only sacrifice can make their prayers heard. They turn into two groups and wage a batttle to please their god and when the wind starts picking up, they leave in a hurry. The idol of the God gets left behind on the beach which somehow seems to be a symbol of a force who needs to see sacrifice in blood as a means to be satisfied.

We are then introduced to Shadow Moon, who is in a prison with few days left to be released and meet his wife. However he gets called to the Wardens office to be informed of the death of his wife in a car crash . Shadow Moon is broken and gets released few days early. He gets to meet Mr Wednesday at the airport tricking airline staff to get himself a free upgrade to first class.

Mr Wednesday seems to know more than he ought to about Shadow Moon and offers him a job which he initally declines. But its quite evident that this offer will be something that he would most likely have to take up.

Yetide Badaki as Bilquis was the highlight of this episode. She brings a powerful and strong screen presence. What I loved equally was the Viking bit in the beginning and is looking forward to it in episode two. American Gods has proved to be a great adaptation from the book and an interesting TV show
