Better Call Saul (Series) Season 1: You should be watching this, especially if you liked Breaking Bad

I loved Breaking Bad. I think it might be one of the most perfect series ever made. I really appreciated the fact that they probably could have kept the series going for several more years, made a crap ton more money, and been uncaring about ruining the overall story in the process (like what happened with LOST.) They didn't do this though, and ended the show wonderfully.

So when it was later released that there was going to be a spinoff show that featured Saul Goodman / Jimmy McGill, who was a very popular character in Breaking Bad that was kind of just a minor character in that show.

The events in the show for the most part take place many years before the events of Breaking Bad, but there are some flash-forward moments that take place in the future that at least appear to be events that happened after the downfall of the meth empire in BB.

We are also privy to the events leading up to Mike Ehrmantraut (played by the always wonderfully stoic Jonathan Banks)being wrapped up in the events of the criminal underworld. While the series focuses mainly on Jimmy, Mike's story, as well as Chicken Shop owner "Gus" Fring are for the most part separate stories, but later on their paths will intertwine.

In season 1 the story focuses mostly on Jimmy's attempt to make it as a lawyer and the troubles he faces as his own brother seems to try to interfere to prevent him from achieving success. I think that Michael McKean's acting as Chuck McGill (Jimmy's older brother) is particularly incredible, especially when you consider that for the most part, McKean is a comedy actor.

Basically, there is very little in the way of drugs even in the first season of Better Call Saul and I think that choice might have been intentional since AMC was likely trying to avoid having this labled as being "Breaking Bad 2."

Everyone in the cast is fantastic. The story, although less action packed than Breaking Bad is just as interesting and this is one of those few series that I can watch and not even have my phone nearby to fill in during the boring times... because there aren't any. There are 3 main stories going on in this series, that realistically could be their own shows if AMC was just after a cash grab.

I think this is one of best things on Netflix and it is truly bingeworthy. If you haven't watched it, you really should. I can all but guarantee you will not be disappointed. If you are not familiar with Breaking Bad, some of the scenes might be a bit confusing, but you'll still get it.

Since i tend to sit on the sofa for long periods of time while watching Better Call Saul, the show gets the ultimate approval from my doggo-friend.
