Brief History of Cut Nyak Dhien
Cut Nyak Dhien (old spelling: Tjoet Nja 'Dhien, Lampadang, Kingdom of Aceh, 1848 - Sumedang, West Java, 6 November 1908; buried in Mount Puyuh, Sumedang) is an Indonesian National Hero from Aceh who fought against the Dutch during the Aceh War. After the territory of VI Mukim was attacked, he fled, while her husband Ibrahim Lamnga fought against the Dutch. Ibrahim Lamnga died in Gle Tarum on 29 June 1878 which caused Cut Nyak Dhien to be very angry and vowed to destroy the Dutch.
Teuku Umar, one of the characters against the Dutch applying for Cut Nyak Dhien. Initially Cut Nyak Dhien refused, but since Teuku Umar allowed him to join the battlefield, Cut Nyak Dhien agreed to marry him in 1880. They were blessed with a boy named Cut Gambang. After marrying Teuku Umar, Cut Nyak Dhien along with Teuku Umar fought against the Dutch. However, Teuku Umar died while attacking Meulaboh on February 11, 1899, so he quarreled alone in the interior of Meulaboh with his small army. Cut Nyak Dien is old and suffering from gout and myopic disease, so one of his soldiers named Pang Laot reported his compassion. He was eventually arrested and taken to Banda Aceh. There he was treated and his illness began to heal. However, its existence adds to the spirit of resistance of the people of Aceh. He is also still in touch with the Acehnese warriors who have not been caught yet. As a result, Dhien was banished to Sumedang. Tjoet Nyak Dhien died on November 6, 1908 and was buried in Mount Puyuh, Sumedang. The name Cut Nyak Dhien is now immortalized as Cut Nyak Dhien Nagan Raya Airport in Meulaboh.
I visited Cut Nyak Dhien tomb in May 2017. My journey started from Jatinangor Subdistrict to Sumedang city with 30 km distance, and travel time about 1/2 hour of journey. after reaching the town of Sumedang, it only takes a few minutes longer to go to the tombs that located in the mountain Puyuh. upon arrival at our grave will be greeted by a very friendly guard or tomb nurse.
The tomb looks clean and well groomed. will it be so if the tomb is in our own place of Aceh?
But unfortunately thousands of dear Heroes we love and as the pride of Aceh his tomb is very far from the land of our own pride of Aceh.
this is an impressive spiritual journey for me. I feel proud as aceh people who are known as brave like heroes and our predecessors.
I am very glad to be able to visit his tomb, because not many of us Acehnese people have the opportunity because the place is far from Aceh.
Not forgetting I pray to Allah Almighty, that he is placed in a decent place by his side and may he include the paradise expert. Because with his services and services other heroes of Indonesia we can be independent as we feel today.
The great nation is a nation that will appreciate its hero and then continue the ideals of his struggle.
