Roma Holidays - The Pantheon

Hello,

Today i want to shar with you some pictures and facts about the nearly 2000 years old Pantheon. It is the oldest building i ever visit and hard to imagine what happened in and around this building in that time. Today it became one of the famoused tourist spots in Rome.

The massive colomns in front of the massive entrance door are already impressive and give you an idea on how incredible this architecture is. Apparently, this colomns have been brought here from Egypt.

The whole entrance door is hard to get on the picture when you in front of it. It is very huge!

When you enter into it, the massive dome with the hole in the middle (the Oculus) will be the first thing you see. This is the world largest unreinforced concrete dome!

There are no other windows, the sunlight illuminate the whole dome and the light beam change its location according to time and date. There is no window so when it rains, it will get wet inside. But there is a sewage system integrated in the floor.

There are several altars around the Pantheon and also toombs like the one of the great Raphael.
