At the Ancient Roman Colosseum

I took a pit stop in Rome after trekking out to Poland for @steemfest 3. Much of my time in Italy was spent going from restaurant to restaurant eating all of the delicious food that Rome has to offer. In between restaurants I had the pleasure of seeing some epic sights and some ancient Roman architecture.
I took a tour of the ancient Roman Colosseum. Although it's a bit of a tourist trap nowadays, it remains a fascinating structure rich with history. I purchased a 'Skip the Line' pass which included a tour of the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. When I thought about what it must have been like during it's prime-time, my imagination ran wild. Behind where I am standing in the picture, over five hundred thousand people and one million animals lost their lives for the sake of entertainment. Next time you see another terrible 'Roughing the Passer' call in an NFL game, think back to the days of the Colosseum and you will realize how far mankind has come.
