Interesting Facts about Saturn

Interesting Facts about SATURN.

Fact No. 1: Second Largest Plant

Saturn ranks second in terms of Size (diameter and mass) and is among largest planet of our solar system. Jupiter stands first in terms of diameter and mass.

Fact No. 2: Sixth Planet

Saturn is the sixth planet from Sun, According to historical fact records, Saturn was known since the time of Babylonians. Records can be found in Religious scriptures and literatures.

Fact No. 3: Pale Yellow in Complexion

The upper atmosphere of the Saturn has Ammonia crystals and Ammonia Ice ans it transition to hydrogen mixture towards the core.

Fact No. 4: Visible with the Naked Eye

Being second biggest planet in solar system the fifth largest object in solar system makes Saturn visible with Naked eye.

Fact No. 5: The Ringed Planet

Saturn is beautifully decorated with rings. This ring is 12700 km, above the saturn and mere 20 meter thick. It is believed that this rings are the remain of the moon of saturn, once rotated abound it.

Fact No. 6: More Loss than Gain

Saturn gives out more energy than it receives or gains from the Sun. This is due to the Gravitational compression of saturn coupled with heavy friction of large deposits of Helium abundance in its atmosphere.

Fact No. 7: 29.4 Earth years for First Birthday

Saturn is slow walker or as mentioned by the ancient Assyrians as the "Oldest of the old". It take twenty nine years and four months earth years for Saturn to orbit around Sun. Considering human life perspective, we might have only 2 or 3 birthdays in entire life time.

Fact No. 8: Family of 150 Natural satellites and Moonlets

Saturn has record breaking collection of 150 moons rotating around it. Most of these Moon are in frozen state. Thes very well known are Titan and Rhea. It is also believed that some of these moons have ocean underneath them (not confirmed yet).

Fact No. 9: Fastest winds and Floating Gas Giant

Winds on saturn are among the fastest in our solar system and has speed of 1800 kilometers/hour speed. Saturn main ingredient is the Hydrogen and helium, which are lighter than water and thus it might float on the surface of water if ever dropped into the Gigantic swimming pool.

Fact No. 10: Weak Magnetic Field But very Hot

Magnetic field of Saturn is weaker than Earth and Jupiter, despite this Saturn is "Super Hot Gas Giant" with its interior/core temperature to reach approximate upto 11,700°C or 21,000 °F.

Fact No. 11: Distance from Sun.

Saturn is approximately 1,450,000,000 km from sun i.e. 900988228.7441 miles. Saturn and Jupiter combined makeup around 30% of the planetary mass in our solar system. These two Giants have been saving planet Earth since billions of years.

Fact No. 12: We Visited Saturn

Saturn has been visited by four spacecraft send form earth (Voyager I and II, Pioneer 11, Cassini-Huygen). On July 01st 2004, the Cassini penetrated the orbit of Saturn to collect information about Saturn's moon and its rings.
