People like to hold onto what they believe and think they know. For much of human history, this worked well. However, in the age we live in now, forget all that. The world is changing quickly, something that few are ready to acknowledge.
Many industries are becoming completely disrupted. What is sad is that most people who work in those industries are completely clueless as to what is going on. It is akin to the retail worker who thought all was well until they were suddenly Amazoned. Of course, when I say retail worker, I do not mean just the cashier or floor clerk. The executives at Sears, JCP, and Target were all equally caught off guard.
The reason this happens is that technology is deceptive. It is one of the phases that it goes through (and one of Peter Diamandis' 6 Ds). It is a period that comes after a lot of hype when, to the average person, it appears the technology died. The reality is the technology did not die but underwent revisions. This leads to a better product/service/technology at a lower price. Suddenly, these factors cause an explosion in implementation which catches the incumbents asleep.
In short, it is difficult for people to believe what is happening. They hold onto their leanings as if they are meant to be unchanged. The sad fact is the world is changing rapidly and this is due to technology.
What you thought was correct no longer applies. This is a simple fact when you look at the world through the technological prism. Sure, those who do this are often thought of as "out there" being dreamers and unrealistic. Of course, those doing making these assertions are the ones tied to their beliefs and ideologies.
The one constant about technology is that it surprises people. Too many focus upon one aspect while believing they are seeing the full picture. The truth is technology rarely unfolds how people expect. However, in the long run, when you step back and see what is going on, it is clear what will happen 5-10 years down the road.
As a technologist, it is imperative that I see the forest through the trees. I am not so concerned about one particular technology as much as the net effect of them all. With the pace of change that is already occurring it is hard not to see how most are unprepared. We are going to be faced with an apocalypse over the next decade. Will it be one that destroys humanity? No but it will revolutionize the way we live and operate. For example, jobs are going to be destroyed in droves. This point is often contested by those who do not understand the technological prism. Instead, they apply what they know and believe to a situation that is unlike any other.
I write these posts in an effort to help people to understand what is happening. Being on Steemit gives you a glimpse into the potential of the blockchain. This is just one of the technologies that I follow which I believe will have profound impact on the world we live in.

Please try to remember this post the next time the urge comes up to debate something that you know is "right". Ask yourself if you are looking at it from a technological standpoint. We are closing out the year 2017, not 1987. Governments, politicians, and ideologies are not in control. Technology is the big elephant in the room now. Every industry, hence every person, is affected by it. To overlook this component is to miss the entire picture.
