The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is seeking computers from supporters to raise donations through crypto-coins.

To this end, the organization launched "The Hope Page" - a site that mines criptomoedas with the help of the processing power of the visitors' computers. The non-profit organization described in a statement that the site:

"It will enable Australians to provide help and hope to vulnerable children by just opening the page while online," ITnews reported.

According to the site, The Hope Page allows users to select how much processing power they wish to make available to contribute to the mining process. The more they stay on the site, the more crypto coins are mined.

UNICEF stated:

"Mining is perfectly safe for your computer. If you're concerned about power consumption, decrease the amount of processing power you're giving. "

Any mined crypto-currency will be converted into fiat currency and donated to UNICEF Australia to be used to help vulnerable children around the world in the form of supplies such as potable water, food and vaccines.

The mining browser is based on an opt-in version of the Coinhive API, called AuthedMine, and the Monero mine.

According to Jennifer Tierney, UNICEF Australia's fundraising and communications director, the organization has been looking to use emerging technologies to raise awareness of humanitarian crises and to collect donations to support affected children.

By the time this article was written, more than 1,600 people were donating computing power to help the organization.
