Before Samsung and Apple came to dominate the mobile phone market, there was only one brand that really mattered - Nokia. While the Finnish company has taken a few knocks in recent years, it’s back in the flagship phone business with the Nokia 8.

So how does this new pretender shape up to Samsung’s current champion, the Samsung Galaxy S8?

So, what do you expect to be the result of a speed test between Nokia 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8? We are not talking about benchmarking results which usually have no relation to real-life performance.

Nokia 8 that runs Pure Android just manages to do better than Samsung Galaxy S8 in the speed test. That is amazing provided Nokia 8 comes at a much lower price than Galaxy S8.

CAMERA

The Nokia 8 comes complete with dual 13-megapixel rear cameras, along with a 13-megapixel front camera, all of which feature Zeiss lenses. The rear cameras are made up of one RGB sensor and one monochrome sensor.

Nokia has also launched a Dual-Sight camera mode on the Nokia 8, which allows users to use both the front and rear cameras simultaneously in order to capture a photo or video of both yourself and the subject to then upload to a social media platform like Facebook or YouTube.while Samsung Galaxy S8 doesn't opt for a dual-rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel single lens rear camera with a f/1.7 aperture lens, optical image stabilization, and 8x digital zoom.

PERFORMANCE

Devices with external memory card slots allow increasing the storage capacity on the cheap. Higher internal memory lets you install more apps. Together with the processor, a high capacity RAM ensures the phone can run multiple apps at a time. A RAM of this capacity ensures that your phone runs smoothly when demanding/graphics intensive apps are being used. The phone doesn’t become too hot when such high-end tasks are running, either. Besides the energy-efficient Snapdragon 835 CPU, this is likely down to Nokia’s inclusion of a copper cooling pipe with a graphite shield, which apparently dissipates system heat across the phone’s body.

BATTERY LIFE
Nokia 8 has 1% more powerful battery than the Samsung Galaxy S8.The battery in the Nokia 8 is a relatively modest 3,090mAh unit, so we initially thought it might struggle to power a QHD screen as well as driving top-end performance, but the phone does quite well in terms of battery. The phone is charged up via the USB-C port at the bottom. There’s also Quick Charge 3.0 at your disposal, which pumps up the cell quickly, but there's no wireless charging option.

The Nokia 8 will become available for the world in September for €599, which is around £550.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is available now and available at the price of £963, making it quite a bit more expensive than Nokia's new flagship.
