Different times, different settings, different chars
Living means change. As we go through life we change: our body, our minds, our tastes, how we think and feel. These changes influence everything and thus the characters we play (and the systems and settings they belong to) change. I want to show you some of my chars in a more or less random order. Connected with that is the system they belong to - some chars and concepts can only exist in a specific system while others are more universal.
Leben ist Veränderung - wir verändern uns in Körper und Geist, im Denken und Fühlen. Diese Veränderung beeinflusst alles, auch die Charaktere die man sich für seine Rollenspielrunden aussucht. Oder die Systeme in denen man spielt - manche Chars sind nur in einem Setting möglich, andere Chars und Konzepte sind weit verbreitet. Ich werde hier in loser Folge einige dieser Figuren vorstellen, aktuelle und eingemottete.
The setting/system: Sundered Skies
Sundered Skies is a Dark Fantasy setting for the Savage Worlds system by TripleAceGames. It's a post-something setting or, as the official information puts it:
"A shattered world. A thousand floating islands. A constant glow of madness. Sundered Skies begins where every other world ends."
Sundered Skies, oder auf deutsch "Die geborstenen Himmel", sind ein Setting für Savage Worlds. Es spielt in einer Welt nach dem Bersten, voller schwebender Inseln und vom nimmerendenden Glühen beleuchtet.
The character: Dvalin Thornfoot // Dvalin Dornenfuß
Dvalin is a dwarf, an old dwarf. In a way even he doesn't know how old he is - though he isn't feeble hist strength isn't what it used to be. And there are things he can't remember anymore... But what he does know: he isn't old enough to remember the shattering of the world. No dwarf is. Perhaps some elves can remember that... but why would they want that? Whatever was before doesn't matter.
Dvalin ist ein alter Zwerg, ein sehr alter. Seine Kraft hat schon nachgelassen. Er scherzt manchmal mit den Jungspunden dass er schon mehr vergessen hat als sie bisher gelernt. Das mag durchaus sein - aber auch er ist nicht alt genug um sich an den Weltenbruch zu erinnern, das große Bersten. Niemand ist so alt... ausser vielleicht ein paar Elfen.
By trade he is a craftsman - one of the dwarven engineers that serve the Artificier, their god, with their daily work. He's able to wield magic which is called "Weird Science" (When I read that I was hooked - weird science and a god that's a sentient steam machine, what's not to like?). Though he doesn't use that often. His companions know that his crossbow has the ability to send shock blasts - but if there's more to it and if the did that himself... who knows. They see an old dwarf who can repair everything and can get the most broken-down ships seaworthy again. Often crotchety and prone to soliloquy, he's kind of a stereotype and he plays that to his advantage.
Er kümmert sich um alles Handwerkliche. Er ist einer jener Zwerge die ihrem Gott (einer riesigen belebten Dampfmaschine) mit ihrer Arbeit dienen. Er kann mit Magie umgehen ("Verrückte Wissenschaft" heisst die hier - als ich den Begriff gelesen habe war mir klar was ich spiele). Seine Begleiter kennen ihn aber eher als den alten Zwerg der quasi alles reparieren kann und auch noch so kaputte Kähne wieder seetüchtig bekommt. Oft mürrisch und zu Selbstgesprächen neigend ist er das wandelnde Klischee und nutzt das zu seinem Vorteil
