‘The untold story of Sunny Leone’ premieres on July 16 in six languages
Zee5 has announced the launch of biopic of Sunny Leone. Titled ‘The untold story of Sunny Leone’, the biopic will premiere on July 16 on Zee5. Given the app’s multi-lingual experience, the series will also be available in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi languages.
A Zee5 original, the series captures the journey of Leone, born as Karenjit Kaur in a middle-class Sikh family, and her makeover from being an innocent girl to an adult film actress and eventually a Bollywood sensation.
Right from her reasons of getting into the adult industry, choosing the name Sunny to owing meeting her husband to the industry itself, she tells her story on her terms, in her inimitable style – one with no regrets.
Leone, who has a huge fan following across the world, has become a trend-setter of sorts by effortlessly making her way from computer screens to dinner-table conversations in many a household, even in traditional and small-town India.

The motion poster of the series garnered more than 9 million views in just a week, and the trailer broke the internet by garnering 20 million views in just three days of going live.”

Speaking at the launch, Leone commented, “This is the first time I am telling my story on my own terms. And I am so thrilled by the warm response that the series has received so far. The trailer also highlights how her brother Sundeep has stood by her in ups and downs and even he was the first family member to know that Sunny had posed for Penthouse magazine. While the family was happy with the money coming in, they also became curious about the source. The two and a half minute trailer highlights her journey Karenjit to Sunny, the moment when she told her her parents about her choice of career and what happened then.
‘Karenjit Kaur – the untold story of Sunny Leone’ also has a reference to 2016 TV interview where she faced sexist and misogynist questions with grace and confidence on camera. The trailer ends with the hard-hitting dialogue that sums up her life. When asked that many assume that there is is no difference between an adult star and a porn star. Sunny Leone replies, 'There is one similar...GUTS'.
So, all those who are expecting this web series to be a sleaze fest. ‘Karenjit Kaur – the untold story of Sunny Leone’ is not meant for you!
