Success is not what you have, but who you are.

This post is not to discount those who have made it and have owned everything they ever wanted in life. This is a post for the ones who have yet to reach success and need a little push.

A little while back, I came across a quote by the late Jim Rohn. It said:

“Become a millionaire not for the million dollars, but for what it will make of you to achieve it.”

Jim, the man who mentored Tony Robbins, made this expression when motivating people to take a chance on becoming millionaires.

What he meant was this:

Everyone should try to become a millionaire, not for the million dollars, but for the person you have to become in order to make that million dollars.

Here’s how you can’t make a million dollars:

You can’t make a million dollars if you are stingy and cheap.

You can't make a million dollars if you think life is a zero-sum game.

You can’t make a million dollars if you subscribe to the salaryman mentality.

You can’t make a million dollars if you only do the bare minimum to not get fired at your day job.

You can’t make a million dollars if you follow the default life path and not question the status quo.

You can’t make a million dollars if you don’t take action day by day towards your goals.

Then what must you become in order to make a million dollars?

You can make a million dollars if you shake off the mindset that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks - if you learn new skills.

You can make a million dollars if you believe you can make it - you must be able to cast away any doubts people throw at you.

You can make a million dollars if you take a proactive way to life - doing more than is asked for and get promoted faster at work.

You can make a million dollars if you proactively search for opportunities - instead of passively waiting for fate to happen to you.

You can make a million dollars if you can handle rejection, take risks and see life as an adventure.

You can make a million dollars if you have grit - and not give up easily.

You can make a million dollars if you have a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset.

Often, where we are today is the result of the choices we make. And in order to be successful, we must become that person that makes it possible. You will be more confident and self-aware as a result of doing so.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
