Silver History Sunday - The Balance Scale Onza

The first true silver bullion coin was the Mexican Onza in 1982, this coin is its predecessor.

Before the age of being able to buy 0.999 or 0.9999 fine silver bullion, we had to settle for sterling (0.925) Silver, the rest of the weight is comprised of other metals (generally copper) as an alloy. This increased the durability of the coin and made circulation possible.

Although this Onza is sterling silver, it is a true "Onza" because it weighs more than 31.1 ounces in order to include a full troy ounce of silver in the coin. This simple beauty is one of the most loved Mexican coins, sought after by collectors and stackers alike.

Hope you enjoy!
