Famous Silver Smiths #6 Omar Ramsden

Omar Ramsden was born in Sheffield, England in 1873 Born in Sheffield he then spent some years in America before he was apprenticed to a firm of silversmiths back in Sheffield.

In 1890 he attended evening classes at the Sheffield School of Art where he met Alwyn Carr and then both had summer classes at the Royal College of Art. In 1898 He went into partnership with Alwyn Carr, an experienced enamellist and silversmith they registered Maker's mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1898. Although in 1919 The partnership was dissolved, both men then proceeded to work independently. Identifying his work is easy with a tell tale sign was All Ramsden pieces were engraved 'Omar Ramsden me Fecit/Facit', meaning 'Omar Ramsden made me'.
His work reflected an influence of both the Arts and Crafts movement and the Art Nouveau design with pieces that retained the beaten, 'hand-crafted' look. Omar was made a member of the Royal Miniature Society in 1921, He exhibited over 90 works with the Society. After a significant career He passed away 1939.
