Wine Review - The Bruce Shiraz 2015 - Brygon Reserve Wines- Margaret River

Meet The Bruce.... inspired by the determination of Robert The Bruce, King Of Scotland (1274 – 1329).

The Bruce is the product of Brygon Reserve Wines in Margaret River; a fairly new winery on the scene, starting on 2009, ad already taking the local industry by storm, with some really top class wines, and The Bruce is no exception.

Being a newer winery, Brygon uses state of the art technology, combined with traditional wine making methods to produce a top quality product, under stringently controlled and monitored processes, with a human touch where there is no substitute.

This bottle of Shiraz, epitomizes to high standard to which this winery subscribes when bringing one of their vintages to market. There is no compromise here; this wine is a true "Bruce!"

So how does it taste?

Right up there with the some of the best Shiraz to come out of the Margaret River region, The Bruce is a mouthful of complex flavour, and pure indulgence. The first sip explodes with ripe dark fruity sweetness of plum and dark cherries, accompanied with well-integrated oak, and a fine and smooth tannin. This is a full-bodied wine, and doesn't pull its punches. It was great company to our meatballs on spaghetti for supper.

Of course, with such a rich meal, and a full-bodies wine to go with it, one glass was enough to satisfy our palate, and we saved the rest of bottle for the next day (it was already a late night, and a second glass wouldn't have done the wine justice).

Well... the next day we openned the bottle, with a backup bottle on hand in case the wine was too far gone. It wasn't! The wine had opened up quite a bit, and still had its full-bodied fruit flavors almost intact, and was still a really good glass of wine. This is one of the few wines which we have saved for the next night, and didn't need to open the backup plan (we still opened the backup plan... after finishing off the bottle).

A bottle of wine is always better shared! and then sometimes 2 bottles are better than one!

The Verdict

This is one of our new favorites from the Margaret River Region, and will bookmark this winery to visit next time we're down that way. It has good depth of character, and satisfies the sweet fruit and oak flavors I enjoy in a wine. I enjoy a full-bodies wine, and Mrs MJ a slightly lighter and sweet wine, but this wine was enjoyed by both of us from different perspectives, and we both agreed this is one we'd love to keep a case of for when winter really starts t set in.

The quality and flavor of the wine is excellent, and at the $20 price we paid for it, a wine that is hard to beat! Our rating for this bottle is a 4 out of 5. I can't quite get it up to 4.5, but this is a strong 4 purely on taste.

Cheers!!
