These Football Players Aren't The Usual Jocks to Caleb Wrenn

Caleb Wrenn has always been a loner all his life. He’s used to eating lunch alone, walking the hallways alone, and getting bullied by his classmates. But, his life changed when he started his freshman year at Reidsville High School in North Carolina.

The first day was how he had imagined. People made fun of his height and thought of him as a loser. He had to sit alone at lunch since no one wanted to sit with the new short kid. When his older sister asked about his first day, Caleb thought nothing of it when he told her about the horrible day.

She immediately took to Twitter to show the bullies that her little brother was a cool kid despite whatever they said. Surprisingly, tons of support poured in, and people wanted to be his friend and sit with him at lunch.

The school’s football and basketball team players, without delay, took their initiative to make sure Caleb never eats alone again. They sat with him throughout lunch, showed him around the school, and even invited him to the games later in the week.

Steve King said, “I felt like I had to make a stand and make sure he was okay because he is a freshman and he shouldn’t have to go through this his first year of high school. The message that I want to send is that you should always be humble, no matter what the situation is, no matter what everybody is going through, you should make sure they’re okay.”

For Caleb, he said that “it felt really nice to know that there are people who care. I’ve always been used to kind of being the outsider, the loner, the outcast, but it feels kind of good to have friends.”

What can you do today to show kindness?

Through this story, we can learn two distinctive lessons. One, if we need help, it’s okay to reach out and ask for it. People sometimes don’t realize you’re going through a tough time if you don’t speak up. You might be surprised at how friendly people are.

Second, if people ask for help, offer it right away. You don’t know how much of a help you would be by being the first to answer. You might have made their day or changed their life forever.

If you decided to do or know of an act of kindness, email support@financeandmarkets.com so we could share it with everyone.
