Rounding Numbers To Nearest Ten
We need rounding when we want to estimate the numbers. Estimation is many times very helpful to check for reasonableness of a quantity or even of an answer to a problem. We start with rounding to nearest ten.
For example, consider the number 44 and we want to round it to nearest ten. First of all we need to know that there are two nearest tens to 44 which are 40 and 50. Now we need to find which ten 44 is closer to. Is it 40 or 50?
Clearly 44 is closer to 40 than 50, hence we round down 44 to 40 as shown below;
Now what about 47?
Well, what if the number is exactly in the centre? Like 45!
Now that we know the basics of rounding to tens, there is an easy trick to round these numbers. Please do the following worksheets to learn that trick
