Hello all steemians friends. On this occasion i want to share to all about relationship between insect and flowers in pollination.
Pollination is the process by which pollen is transferred to the female reproductive organs of a plant, thereby enabling fertilization to take place.Source
We know that many types of pollination are occurring in plants such as pollination of the wind, self pollination, pollination of test tubes, open pollination, closed pollination, and insect pollination.
But on this occasion we will discuss about pollination with insects.
When does insect pollination occur?
The insect-assisted pollination process begins when the insect gets to the flower to pick up the nectar from the flower. By the time the insects land on the flowers, some of the pollen from the flower is attached to the insect's legs.
As the insect moves into another flower to pick up the nectar, the pollen attached to the insect's feet moves into the flower's pistilized head. So that no accidental pollination has occurred on the flower infected by the insect.
Characteristics of the pollinated flower
As for the characteristics of the pollinated flower aided by the insects are (1) the flower has a crown with a striking color, (2) the flower meg put out a distinctive smell or aroma, (3) the flower has honey, (4) the pollen in the flower is sticky and its small size. These characteristics can make the insects interested in settling in the flower.
Conclusion
From the above discussion we can conclude that pollination of plants assisted by insects caused by insects want to take the nectar from flowers. Not all types of pollination flowers are assisted by insects, because pollination is assisted by insects only on flowers that have certain characteristics.
