Appreciation, Verbally or Materially Is A Potential Motivator

SUNDAY SPECIAL

An average human being wants to be paid or get some accolades for whatever service he renders even in church. Payment for service is a potent motivation for consistency and productivity. You may have observed some workers, most notably instrumentalists and singers are either inconsistent or will not work except financial terms are agreed. Are they wrong?

That is some question and many churches have their perspective to the discourse. I'm however going to share what I think on the subject. The thought that because a person working in church is doing it in service to God and shouldn't make a big deal out of it even if he is not appreciated openly or financially is true but it is not ideal if you must keep your workers happy.

So the brother is up there in church by 5:30am fixing the whole system, the sister gets to church by 6:00am and stands up ushering for almost 6 hours, the sister that sings on Sundays fast every Saturday and prays for 4 hours in tongues to get ready for the service. The teacher buys and studies about five books in a week to get ready for Sunday School. In some churches they get a thank you, a few won't even appreciate the fellows.

Same churches will invite an artist to come and play his audio and sing along side and they will end up paying hundreds of thousands. Some will pay invitees from outside during programs but will see it as worldliness if a brother expects some accolades for his service.

For those church leaders and pastors who don't appreciate the workers, start doing it as often as possible and for those who do it verbally alone, please you can appreciate with carnal things. There is nothing wrong if you give them money in appreciation. You are not paying them, you only appreciated them. It may not be monthly but it should come up from time to time. Don't hide under the umbrella that they are working for God and God is a good pay master when in essence you have always being a stingy person.

I'm Jay Sun and I believe appreciating church workers verbally and even financially if need be is a potent motivator.
