💡 jabi... I bought my first Steem with a credit card. How you can too...

I didn't take the plunge (invest big)
but I did dip my toe in the water.
I see there's a few others taking advantage of the undervalued Steem market...

What I spent and what I got

I spent $51.82 USD

  • I got 52.268 Steem
    • I powered up 52.268 Steem Power

How I did it

Sorry, I did not take screen shots or keep exact notes, but here's basically what I did.

I did not want to give my bank account info to an exchange, so I looked for one that would accept credit cards. I just felt a bit safer that way.

PSA (Public Service Announcement...)
NOTE: If you purchase with a credit card, you should have the cash to pay it off immediately.
There is risk in any cryptocurrency, so you should not play with money you cannot afford to lose.

I signed up for cex.io.

Invite users to CEX.IO and earn 30% of the fee on their exchange transactions!

  • It doesn't cost you anything, it comes out of the fees you have to pay anyway.
    • If you sign up, you can get your own affiliate link...

I added and verified my card.

  • You will need to take a picture of the front and back of your card and your ID card.
    I used my driver's license.
  • You will need to take a selfie of you and your card.
  • You will need a phone.

Once verified, I was able to purchase.
I wanted to purchase $50 USD of Etherum.
The fee was $1.82, so my total to my card was $51.82.
This purchased ETH 0.174641

I then opened up a new window and went to my Steemit wallet.
From there I clicked the drop down next to Steem and clicked Purchase.
Choose Ether to Steem
(NOTE: If you are going to power up, later I realized you can purchase SP directly...)
Under Ether, type in how much you have to sell.

Under receive address, type in your username.
Make sure your icon comes up.

Click the "Get Deposit Address" button.
To the right of the address (That long bunch of numbers and letters) is the copy to clipboard icon.
Click that and voila, it's copied to the clipboard...

Switch back to cex.io
Click on the "Finance" from the top menu
Scroll down to ETH and click the Withdrawal Button on the right.
Under "Enter the recipient's address below" Right-click the text box. Choose paste.
This puts the address you copied from the BlockTrade step above.
Make sure ETH is selected as currency.
Enter the amount of ETH you want to send.
Click the checkbox, once you've done those things.
Click the "Withdraw" button

Go get yourself a snack or drink or whatever you do to kill a few minutes.

Check your Steem wallet and voila, there it will be.

NOTE: Somewhere in there (sorry I didn't take notes) it texted me another verification code...

Conclusion

I'm now officially a crypto investor.
I've now not only invested time building my free Steemit account to

  • 228.354 SP in 190 days.
  • 100 shares of SBI
  • @qurator membership
  • a few Steem Monster cards

I've now also invested $50 USD!

It was all relatively painless, and I had no problems doing it.

What's next?

  • If the price keeps going down, I'll purchase some more at 75 cents, 50 cents, 25 cents, 10 cents.
  • If the price goes up to $10, I'll power down to recoup my $50 investment.

Comments requested

  • Have you purchased Steem during this slump?
  • Do you plan to?
  • What exchange did you use?
  • Do you feel safe connecting your bank account to an exchange?
  • Do you think there's a better interim token to use that ETH?
