"The highlight of my time in Sri Lanka was watching this family of wild elephants happily play and teach their calves how to swim. Thank you to everyone who emailed or reached out with advice following my post about reputable elephant sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately there are several organisations marketing themselves as "orphanages" that mistreat the elephants; keeping them locked in chains and being ridden as tourist attractions. If you are planning to see elephants in Sri Lanka, or any region that is lucky enough to still have these beautiful creatures, I urge you to do your research and be more mindful. I recommend to only consider seeing them from afar on safari, in the wild where they belong. ❤️🐘🌿"
